Our Process With Services

Initial Consultation

Complimentary phone consultations are designed to determine if you or your family member would benefit from a comprehensive evaluation. Throughout the consultation, we can gather more information about you or your loved one and address any questions you might have.

Assessment/Interview

We will conduct a speech-language evaluation to determine the need for intervention and identify the type and frequency of therapy required. A comprehensive evaluation typically involves reviewing your history, making informal observations, completing questionnaires, and administering formal standardized tests. Following the evaluation, we will assess our findings and create a care plan for future visits if additional treatment is deemed necessary. During your initial treatment visit, we will present and discuss the evaluation results with you, addressing any questions you may have.

Recommendations & Collaborations

After the evaluation, we may contact you with recommendations for follow-up with additional medical professionals to confirm or further diagnose suspected diseases or disorders. Examples may include a video swallow study to confirm specific areas of swallowing impairments or videostroboscopy to identify possible damage to your vocal folds.

Treatment

During therapy sessions, we use exercises to restore, retrain, or compensate for speech, language, voice, swallowing, and cognition skills. Sessions are one-on-one and typically last 30-45 minutes. Therapy recommendations usually range from once to three times per week, depending on the individual’s unique needs. At the end of each session, we aim to provide you with education about the results of tasks/progress and offer suggestions and materials for at-home practice.

Progress Check-Ins

We believe that maintaining constant communication regarding your unique needs is crucial throughout the therapeutic process. We assess progress toward individualized goals every 10th therapy visit and can always provide you and your family with updates. We are always available after appointments, via email or phone, to discuss any questions you may have.

Completion of Services

Every 90 days, we will assess your progress with your individualized goals and modify/update your plan of care when needed. Once all your goals have been met, or you experience a plateau in progress following education and training in compensatory strategies, services may be discontinued. We may recommend continued participation in Speech Therapy services at a later time, depending on your needs.
